Martified Sentences

Day 9, Sentences 1, 2 and 3:

Underneath the thick branches of an overhanging tree and hidden behind a rather prickly and none-too-attractive bush, which scratched Trixie terribly as she wriggled and squirmed to get past it, her face set with determination, was a dark and gloomy space, its corners infested with spiders and other creepy crawlies, and which could only be described as a cave by someone who had no experience of caves, and within that tiny crawl-space, which was not actually a cave, but may have been described as such, as mentioned, by someone who didn’t know what they were talking about, lay a small black tin box, dust-covered and dented, its upper surface marred by the scratched letters RAB, which reminded her idly of horcruxes, and which Trixie took in her hands, holding her breath as she scrabbled at the lid, opening it to reveal her silver identity bracelet with Jim’s name on it, which was one of her fondest possessions and which she could now categorically state had been pilfered by one Robert Andrew Belden.

Jim was the first to notice that the search was over and Trixie was returning, bracelet held triumphantly aloft, along with several other items, including Mart’s birthday card with fifty dollars inside, but wisely left her alone to deal with her little brother when he heard her yelling, “Robert Belden, come here right now, or else!” and saw the look on the youngest Belden’s face as he descended the porch stairs into the group of Bob-Whites, then staring into the familiar depths of his sister’s angry eyes, turned tail and ran back inside the house to hide under the stairwell.

As the dust settled after Trixie had dealt with her recalcitrant brother and returned all of the various other treasures from inside the black tin box to their owners, she turned to Mart and remarked, “Moms came in and took over and set Bobby’s punishments, but I thought your idea about the helicopter dropping him on top of Manor House and making him live on the roof sounded pretty good.
